On December 14th, 2017 Jochen BAUERREIS participated as a rapporteur in the thesis defence of M. Mohammad MEHDIPOUR. This thesis deals with “The reception by Iranian law of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration”.
The jury also included Mr Francois-Xavier LICARI (thesis supervisor), Mr Olivier CACHARD (President of the jury) and Mrs Séverine MENETREY (rapporteur).
Doctoral student Mohammad MEHDIPOUR demonstrated how the adaptation of Iranian law on international commercial arbitration in line with the 1985 UNCITRAL Model Law tends to promote the conduct of international arbitration proceedings in Iran. .
He thus highlighted the „positive“ developments in Iranian law, particularly with regard to the autonomy of the arbitration clause, the arbitrator’s power to decide the issue of its own jurisdiction, as well as the res judicata authority of the arbitral award.
